Elliot’s Story (told by him)
I had my best month in sales and yet there I was, standing on the edge of a cliff wondering where it had all gone wrong.
It was 2010 and I was in Australia on business. I had just had my best month in sales ever, yet my business was failing, my personal relationship was over and I was on the verge of bankruptcy. I was in a bad way, I needed answers and I needed them fast.
Only a short time before, I was one of Britain’s top 3 coaches, I had launched my first book and I was riding the crest of that wave they call “success”.
Life had been great, yet here I was, standing on the edge of a cliff. It was a beautiful day with the sun shining bright and warm, the birds singing and a breeze to cool me down.
It was serene and tranquil spot, yet, I was living the worst day of my life.
I had truly hit rock bottom.
I had two choices:
1. Give up.
2. Do something different.
Thankfully, and as you have probably gathered, I opted to do something different.
What did I do?
I decided to pull myself together and turn my business around by asking for help.
I know what you’re thinking, but aren’t you the guy that helps businesses, why would you need help?
Well let me tell you, the secret to success is knowing when you need help!
Do you think all successful business owners get to the top alone? No, they do not, along the way they would have met certain individuals that moved them up to the next level.
You see up to that moment, standing at the top of that cliff, I had been trying to do everything myself. I had done well, but I had become a victim of my own success. I had ventured into new niches and created new products. I had done all this without any guidance, plus I had neglected to make a plan! I had no one to turn to for advice when I needed it and in Australia was when I needed it most.
So what did I do?
I got myself a mentor. Someone who specialised in taking businesses from £500k to 2 million.
This totally transformed my business and my life, in ways you could not imagine. Deciding to work with a mentor was the defining moment of my business and this has truly changed everything.
I will save the rest of my story for when we meet (whether that be at an event or a 1 to1 meeting), however what I realised very quickly was that there is no one around to work with entrepreneurs and business owners who are trying to simply get to the £100k mark in their business.
Every business mentor I know only works with businesses at the £250k+ level! The main reason is that it’s easier. The business owner has usually gone through the growing pains of their business and has more than likely honed their products/services by the time they reach 250k, and so it’s a question of simply scaling what works and eliminating what doesn’t.
So if you’re starting out or struggling to hit that first £100k point, then you’re usually on your own. Sure, there’s plenty of one-size-fits-all courses and workshops, but most businesses are unique and so the one-size-fits approach doesn’t work!
I think this is unfair and I decided to do something about this.
I now help business owners transform their businesses using a methodology that is unique to them.
I know what it’s like to grow a business from 0 to £100k, in fact I’ve done this many times for myself and for my clients.
This is the hardest phase. This is where most of the costly mistakes are made and where most people give up, usually just before they are about to reach profitability!
Unfortunately most people give up without ever consulting an expert. They ask friends, family, someone they know with their own business. Deep down we all know this is pointless, but we ask these people because that’s the only group of people we know!
To put it simply, you need to seek out the advice of someone who knows what the hell they are talking about!
Someone who has been there and has gone through exactly what you’re going through.
Someone who can very quickly see what you should be concentrating on and what you shouldn’t be.
Most importantly… someone who can get you to be where you want to be. Fast!
